8 Items I love for Kitchen Organization & Styling

Recently, I had the opportunity to shoot a video with Anne Gordon, Keller Williams Realtor about my favorite items for Kitchen Organization & Styling. When Anne and I met, we bonded over our mutual love of our Sacramento neighborhood, College Greens. We realized that our clients often have the same needs, and we wanted to make a quick, fun & informative video to help people organize and style the room we’re both asked most frequently about - the kitchen!

Open Shelving Solutions

Family Heirlooms aka “The Good Plates” In the video I show the china I inherited from my Grandmother. Obviously I can’t link to that, but if you have dishes that you love, and would like to use more, I suggest placing them (or even just part of your set) on your open shelves. It will encourage you to elevate the every day, even if it means you’re using it for your 10pm ice cream & Netflix tradition.

Glass containers for storing dry goods There are so many beautiful containers out there that you can use to store dry goods that you use daily. From baking supplies to snacks - open shelves can create a beautiful display area. I use Mason jars at home, but one quick “Anchor hocking” search online (or in this case, the Container Store website) will bring up many lovely options!

Glasswear Anything from the wine glasses you absolutely love, to the glass cake stand you found at a thrift store - glass items can make a beautiful statement on an open shelf.

Plants Having plants in your kitchen can make a big difference in your air quality, mood, and general ascetic of your kitchen. If you’ve got a mighty brown thumb, you can phone in the look with faux plates. I love this Texture Eucalyptus Plant from Wayfair. If you want to give the real thing a try and you’re in Sacramento, connect with the team at Propagate - they will help you select the perfect plant for your light and gardening levels.

Baskets In the video, I recommend the Water Hyacinth Basket from The Container Store. These baskets come in multiple shades and sizes, so they work in many different spaces, and can bring cohesion to your look. My absolute favorite shade are the Black and Natural Baskets. They don’t come in as many sizes as the Natural and Mocha shades, but they are so darn cute!

Open Shelving Tip Remember that this area is all about displaying things beautifully. You want to make sure that this area has things stored more sparingly. I love how Rebecca from Studio Plumb styled her open shelves in her kitchen One Room Challenge last year. Perfection!

Pantry Favorites

Bringing back the baskets Can you tell I love these Water Hyacinth Baskets yet? In the video, you’ll see that I talk about them for open shelving as well as in the pantry. Yes - they are that good!

Drawer Organizers I talk about these shallow drawer organizers because they are GOLD, fam. Seriously. I have used them for many a utility drawer (because the first step in reclaiming your “junk drawer” is to rename it - a topic coming soon on the blog). I’ve also used them in bathrooms, offices, bathrooms - the list goes on and on. They come in so many sizes, it makes figuring out a solution for your space easy. I keep them in stock at home, so I can bring a ton to client homes, figure out what I need and just take home what I don’t. There are many great options out there, but these iDesign Shallow Drawer Organizers are my absolute favorite.

Made by Design bins from Target This line from Target came out last fall, and I’m obsessed with them. Not only because the clear storage bins come in about eight different sizes, so you can always find a size for your space, but they are extremely versatile - I use them in offices, bathrooms, and pantries frequently. For my clients whose motto is “if I can’t see it - it basically doesn’t exist” - clear containers are KEY for long-term clutter success.

Expandable Shelf This item is one that I use in most pantries I organize, especially with clients who prefer to have a little more backstock in canned goods. The company who makes it - madesmart - is an American-based, women-owned company, and they have a lot of great products. I love this shelf because it’s expandable / fits many different sized spaces, and has great grip on each shelf.

I hope you find these suggestions helpful for your next pantry project! Be sure to watch the video above and enter our giveaway so we can work on your pantry together!
